Competencies and Classes at Big Picture
Dear Big Picture Families- I wanted to take a moment to share with you information about how and where students are earning competencies at Big Picture.
We have six core competencies that students must meet and demonstrate to graduate. These competencies can be shown in a variety of ways, but our program is built to ensure that students have time, support, and resources to meet these competencies with the work they do during the week. It is easiest for students to meet the competencies by completing the work and passing the classes outlined. For students who do not complete the necessary classwork or who do not pass a class, there can be alternative methods to demonstrate their knowledge and skill in these areas, but again, passing classes is meant to be the roadmap to competency.
We have outlined what the competencies are and the subcomponents of each. In the parentheses, you will find the class where students complete the majority of work related to the competency or subcomponent. This information will continue to be shared and reviewed with students as well.
