Big Picture Updates for the week ending 1/30

Posted Date: 01/30/26 (03:47 PM)

Dear Big Picture Families-

We have finished our first week of the second semester here at Big Picture.  The short week provided some opportunities for refreshers on school expectations, getting to know new students, and sharing about the updated afternoon schedule to address specific project and program requirements.  Each teacher will be taking a specific class in the afternoons, and students will rotate through time with each teacher during the course of the week.  Ms. Lutes will cover advisory and program information, including emails home, updating their MTC/student portfolio, school social, and executive function skills, and other program-wide tasks.  Mrs. Iufer will be working with students on their personal projects to ensure students understand the competencies they should meet and help them with organizing and showing new learning from their projects.  Mr. Melton will be working on a variety of integrated projects that will cover math, science, and ELA standards to help give real world connection to the learning happening in morning classes.

We will be increasing our emphasis on career skills on Thursdays, along with moving our club time to Thursday afternoon as well.  Students who have jobs, have completed the appropriate paperwork, and have turned in their work hours will be excused for Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Moving forward, students who are not making appropriate academic progress will be invited to the 1st period study hall to ensure we are supporting them in getting back on track.  We will communicate that as monthly progress reports start again at the end of February.

Looking ahead to next week, grade reports will be sent home next week with students.  If you would like a copy or have questions, please reach out.

Thank you for trusting us to support your student and their learning.  It was a good first week, and we are looking forward to a great semester.
