Welcome to Ellensburg Big Picture School

Ellensburg Big Picture is a unique learning option for students who thrive with hands-on projects, real-world experiences, and personalized support. Our program blends academic coursework, meaningful project-based learning, and “Leaving to Learn” opportunities out in the community.

Students work with their teachers, advisors, and families to design personalized learning plans aligned to their interests and future goals. Each semester ends with a public exhibition where students present what they’ve learned and demonstrate their growth.

Instead of earning credits, students progress toward graduation by demonstrating mastery of Big Picture competencies. This competency-based approach allows students to move at a pace that reflects their effort, understanding, and readiness.

Who Can Join?

Ellensburg Big Picture is open to incoming 9th–12th grade students, and we welcome learners from all academic backgrounds. If your student is curious about a different way of learning, we encourage your family to reach out and explore whether Big Picture is a good fit.

Enrollment Information

We enroll students at the start of each semester based on available space. All students and families meet with the principal before joining the program to ensure the Big Picture model matches their learning needs and goals.
